Black Girl Magic Meets Rural Medicine: A New Clinic for Bogalusa

I’ve been hanging out in Bogalusa lately, and I witnessed something special: the grand opening of Dr. K’s Family Medicine, where Black women medical professionals from across the country showed up strong to support this community. Their presence made it clear—this new clinic is more than a building. It’s a statement. It’s a lifeline. It’s hope.

Why This Matters

Rural communities like Bogalusa face real barriers to healthcare: long drives for basic services, limited access to specialists, and higher rates of chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. When a full-service primary care clinic opens in a town like this, it doesn’t just treat illness—it changes outcomes. It keeps families healthier, longer.

The Grand Opening

At the ribbon-cutting, the energy was electric. Black women physicians, nurse practitioners, therapists, and wellness professionals traveled in to stand in solidarity. They weren’t there for show—they were there to support another Black woman leading a healthcare movement in rural Louisiana. Their support sent a message: Bogalusa deserves high-quality care, representation, and providers who understand the community.
