Did Anybody Pick Elizabeth’s Ass Up Yet?

Well, well, well.

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill, the same top law enforcement official who has spent plenty of time talking tough about accountability, now has her own name sitting inside an indictment.

An Orleans Parish grand jury reportedly hit Murrill with 16 felony counts, including public intimidation and malfeasance in office, connected to letters she allegedly sent to New Orleans leaders over the fight surrounding changes to the city’s court system. Now let’s be clear: an indictment is not a conviction. She deserves due process like everybody else.

But that is exactly the point.

Because when regular people get accused, the system does not always slow down to protect their reputation. It does not always wait for context. It does not always give grace. It moves fast, loud, and heavy.

Now that the shoe is on the state’s foot, everybody wants to talk about politics, retaliation, and fairness.

Interesting.

Maybe this is a good time for Louisiana to remember that power should never be above the same system it uses on everybody else.

So yes, Liz Murrill deserves her day in court.

But Louisiana deserves the truth, too.
