Why I’m Voting YES on the Council on Aging Millage

On November 15th, voters in East Baton Rouge Parish have a critical opportunity: to renew one of our community’s most effective and compassionate investments—the Council on Aging millage.

Let’s be clear: this is not a new tax. It’s a continuation of an existing one that has already delivered undeniable, measurable results for our seniors and neighborhoods. Just look at what’s been accomplished:

• 8.4 million meals served to seniors, including 6.3 million delivered directly to homes through Meals on Wheels

• 25,488 seniors supported annually with nutrition, healthcare access, and vital social services

• Over 132,000 rides provided to help seniors stay mobile and connected

• 180 housing units developed to help seniors safely age in place

• More than $21 million in direct material aid distributed

• A network of 21 senior centers and feeding sites across the parish

• 8 city blocks revitalized, turning blight into beauty and community value

Beyond these numbers, the Council on Aging has used millage funds to spark transformational capital investments:

• The Lotus Village – a $27 million tax credit development for senior living and care

• The Lotus Center – a $3.1 million hub for programming, support, and wellness

• Ageless Circle – an $850,000 initiative supporting social connection and equity

This is what good governance looks like. This is what responsible public funding should do—uplift our elders, enrich our neighborhoods, and strengthen our collective future.

That’s why I’m voting YES on November 15th—and I encourage every resident who believes in dignity, equity, and community to do the same.
