Vote Yes for Seniors on June 27th

On June 27th, East Baton Rouge Parish voters have a clear choice: vote yes for our seniors.

This millage renewal is not about politics. It is about meals, transportation, senior centers, disaster response, dignity, and independence. For the average $200,000 home, the cost is about $2.28 a month, roughly $28 a year. That small investment helps protect thousands of elders across our parish.

Tasha Clark-Amar, CEO of the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging, made it plain. The agency has the lowest millage in the parish, has been around for more than 50 years, and under this administration has produced eight years of clean audits. The records are public. The audits show where the money goes, including salaries, services, and every major expense.

The results are real. EBRCOA has grown from eight senior centers to 21. Meals have increased from about 250,000 a year to around 1.5 million meals annually. Many of those meals go directly to homebound seniors who cannot cook or get out on their own.

This work also shows up during emergencies. EBRCOA is the designated disaster agency for seniors, helping track elders on oxygen, medicine, and critical needs when lights go out or disasters hit.

When we talk about tax dollars at work, this is what we mean.

One day, all of us will be elders. The question is whether the resources will be there when we need them.

On June 27th, vote yes for seniors.
